Headwaters Health Care Foundation Cancels and Modifies Events in Response to COVID-19

September 08 2020
Wow 2020! What a year it has been so far. Since COVID-19 arrived in late March, we have all been struggling with uncertainty, states of emergency, social distancing guidelines, staying home as much as possible, losing work or working remotely and now a cautious return to school. We have come together as a community to support those who are ill, opened our local, drive-through Assessment Centre, closed Hospital programs, and reopened them once again.

And while we all remain diligent in working to contain the spread of this virus, out of an abundance of caution for our staff, our tremendous volunteers our event participants, and the greater Headwaters community, we have made the difficult decision to cancel or modify our ever-popular Signature Events.

Gala 2020

Our May event date came and went thanks to the arrival of COVID-19, and we were so grateful that when we had to postpone our fabulous sold out event, our sponsors and ticket purchasers, not to mention vendors and our fabulous new venue, Mount Alverno, all agreed to move with us to October 17, 2020.

That said, we have now made the difficult decision to postpone once again.
The SOLD-OUT Headwaters Black and White Gala will take place on May 1, 2021 at Mount Alverno Luxury Resort in Caledon. We look forward to finally hosting our first-ever 600 guest Gala, in a new venue, under the stars, in a spectacular new glass conservatory with locally curated dishes and spectacular new wine options. It will truly be a night to remember!

That said, the Hospital is still in need of funding right now, and the postponement of Gala to 2021 means that the Hospital will get significantly less from the Foundation to support critically needed equipment. To help soften this blow, we are pleased to announce that in October we will be hosting a community-wide online auction from October 8 - October 17. Along with sharing patient stories and words of thanks from the Hospital team, we will use online technology to collect philanthropic donations to support urgent priority and obstetrics needs. In addition, a community-wide raffle will be drawn on October 17 - when we would have been celebrating together! Tickets on sale now! Visit https://bit.ly/3lHYmlU for all the details.

2020 Golf Classic

We have some exciting news to share! While COVID-19 has caused us to restructure our annual tournament, while embracing our new reality and its associated public health guidelines, we are pleased to announce that plans for our September 29th golf tournament are moving forward!

Along with the staff at Devil's Pulpit, we have arranged for a modified tournament (96 golfers), a day filled with fun and engaging activities, great food and drink, and fundraising for Headwaters Health Care Foundation in support of urgent priority and obstetrics needs at the Hospital.
While the modified tournament is SOLD-OUT, a limited number of Tee Sign Sponsorships ($500 each) are still available. For more information please contact Meghan Cleeves mcleeves@headwatershealth.ca 519.941.2702, ext. 2303

Tour de Headwaters

We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 event, which had been scheduled for September 19th. However, the Hospital is still in need of funding right now, and the cancellation of the 2020 Tour de Headwaters means that the Hospital will get less from the Foundation to support critically needed equipment.
To help minimize this impact, we are pleased to announce that between September 4th and 27th the Foundation will be promoting the opportunity for you, our supporters, to walk, run, or bike a route of your choice, set up a personal fundraising page, and collect pledges from friends and family. To get a head start on fundraising, create your personal page herehttps://hhcfoundation.akaraisin.com/ui/hhcpersonalpages
It is our hope that the community and our regular Tour participants will hear our call, understand the need, and support Headwaters at this difficult time. It won’t be the same, but as we adjust to the new normal, we hope you will join us for the ride.

As Dora Boylen-Pabst, CEO Headwaters Foundation points out, “Unfortunately, due to these cancellations and modifications we anticipate being able to flow approximately $480,000 less in event revenue to Headwaters Health Care Centre than we had planned and hoped. And, while we can’t fill the entire gap, we are hopeful that our community will continue to rally, and continue to support us as they have historically, and as they have since COVID-19 landed on our doorsteps. Already this community has provided us with the means to see the future, and work towards it, and we are both optimistic and excited.”

Tim Peters, Chair of the Headwaters Foundation Board of Directors explains “We, at Headwaters Foundation realize just how tough things are within our communities. Finances are tight, our worry for our loved ones, friends and colleagues is real and lots of charities are experiencing gaps in their fundraising; but, we are confident that our community will continue to ensure that we can meet our Hospital’s needs. Headwaters still needs you now, more than ever.

“I am so proud that the people in our communities consider Headwaters to be their hospital and contribute time and time again to show they care,” said Kim Delahunt, President & CEO, HHCC. “Our staff and physicians are forever grateful, especially at this very challenging and unprecedented time in our history.”
