Unprecedented Times are met by Unprecedented Donations! The Dufferin-Caledon Community Steps Up to Support Headwaters Health Care Centre Foundation

April 16 2020

These are unprecedented times, and the response from our community, across Dufferin and Caledon has been unprecedented as well. Our community is truly the best, and on behalf of the Headwaters Foundation Board of Directors, our staff team, and the ENTIRE Headwaters Health Care Centre Family, THANK YOU!

At the end of March, when the importance of social distancing and states of emergency were declared, long time Headwaters supporter Anne Livingston, stepped up, and generously matched all gifts made to our COVID19 Response, up to $40,000. Astonishingly, just one week later, we had exceeded our target of $40,000, having raised a combined total of $91,780!

Then Nobis Canada stepped up, and offered up another one-week challenge, to a maximum of $20,000. This matching gift ran from April 3rd to April 10th and raised a combined $54,768 for Headwaters.

Currently the Foundation is running its 3rd (and final) matching gift program. Thank you to TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in association with the Humeniuk Foundation, for your generous offer of matching our community’s donations up to $50,000 between April 13th and May 1st. What a way to bring it home, and fulfill the needs of people who deserve quality care, right here in our own backyard.

But, these totals and tales of generosity only tell half the story. Headwaters Foundation has also been the very grateful recipient of a series of leadership gifts, gifts that have specifically supported ventilators, sterile storage systems, specialty pumps for the ICU, beds and stretchers.

Since March 24th 552 gifts were made between $10 and $4,999. 14 gifts were made ranging between $5,000 and $9,999. And, two gifts were made between $10,000 and $24,999! Astonishing and appreciated.

The following individuals, families and companies have made gifts of $25,000 or more to fund equipment to meet not just the needs of our COVID-19 patients, but our patients experiencing cardiac concerns, cancer, the sadness of the end of life and the joys of birth, all at this challenging time.

The Grand Total raised to-date from these donors and initiatives is just shy of $675,000, and we simply could not have done it without each and every supporter. Every single dollar counts.
We, at Headwaters Foundation realize just how tough things are within our communities. Finances are tight, our worry for our loved ones, friends and colleagues is real, lots of charities are experiencing gaps in their fundraising, but the community continues to ensure that we can meet our Hospital’s needs. Your support will see us through this pandemic.  Our communities’ continued support of our frontline teams who day-in and day-out are providing high-quality care to our patients – both in the COVID-19 Assessment Centre and in the Hospital itself, is truly amazing.

“I am so proud that the people in our communities consider Headwaters to be their hospital and contribute time and time again to show they care,” said Kim Delahunt, President & CEO, HHCC. “Our staff and physicians are forever grateful, especially at this very challenging and unprecedented time in our history of providing care.”

Thank you as well to every local business that has contributed to the Hospital’s PPE drive (visit headwatershealth.ca for more information), and who has contributed food, drinks and other daily essentials to our COVID-19 Assessment Centre Teams, and in fact all of our Frontline Staff. Your generosity is heartwarming.

Dora Boylen-Pabst, Headwaters Foundation CEO explains, “Headwaters still needs you now, more than ever. This is an unbelievable situation we all find ourselves in, and we need your ongoing support for us to be able to quickly respond to all the Hospital’s emerging needs, but, already this community has provided us with the means to see the future, and work towards it, and we are both optimistic and excited. I have only been CEO at Headwaters Foundation for 15 months, and although I quickly realized that this amazing catchment has a unique, family-oriented and supportive culture, I remain humbled by the response we have seen since the arrival of this virus. All I can say is, thank you.”

It has never been more important that we move forward as One Community, Caring Together! As Dr. Peter Cino, Chief of Staff said in his letter to the community – “We are all at the beginning of the battle with this virus.  This hospital, this community, this region, this Province requires of us, and in fact, demands of us, to work together to get through this.” Thank you for hearing his call.
