We need your help to Invest in a Clearer Picture!

April 01 2021
Investing in a Clearer Picture, a $3.5 million campaign, will bring state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technology to Headwaters. Headwaters Diagnostic Imaging department is struggling with aging equipment that is now at the end of its life, due to the exponential growth in our patient volumes and due to tremendous wear and tear over the last 10 years. On an annual basis, Headwaters provides over 91,000 diagnostic imaging tests which are performed on adults, children, emergency patients, inpatients, and outpatients. The time has come to replace our aged equipment and ensure that our patients have access to the same level of care being delivered throughout the province, within reasonable wait times.

This campaign will bring several new and replacement items needed to support our community including: a new mammography machine with tomosynthesis (3D breast screening device), four new ultrasound machines, a bone density machine, a new and fully outfitted X-ray room and a C-Arm for the surgical suite to display high definition video. The Diagnostic Imaging Department touches almost every patient that comes through Headwaters, as part of their overall patient journey. From unborn babies, to breast cancer screening, to helping determine if you have a broken bone or osteoporosis, it diagnoses, and sets the path for treatment. Over $1.1 M has been raised to date!

All gifts to the campaign made in April and May will be matched dollar for dollar, to a maximum of $200,000, by a first-time supporter and will go towards purchasing two new ultrasound machines! With over 30,000 ultrasounds tests performed annually, these new machines will be significantly faster and produce better imaging resolution to support patient needs including those of cardiac patients and the (approximately) 900 mothers who have their babies at Headwaters every year.

“I am living proof that having proper technology can improve our quality of life. Because my cancer was detected within the early stages, I was able to have my chemotherapy treatment at Headwaters.” – Jamie Willcott, Headwaters’ patient and cancer survivor.

Dora Boylen-Pabst, CEO of Headwaters Foundation explains that “we are thrilled to have a first-time supporter challenge the community with a matching gift to support our urgent campaign needs. The Headwaters community has been very supportive during the unprecedented challenges presented to us by COVID-19, and we hope they continue and support the equipment needed to diagnose and ensure excellent care close to home.”
