ORANGEVILLE, ON (May 28, 2024) – Anne Thompson, a local Caledon resident and member of the Headwaters Health Care Foundation Board of Directors, is calling on her Caledon community to support Smart Headwaters, the ambitious fundraising campaign underway to support MRI and more at the Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville. Headwaters has been doing more with less for many years and the current campaign is designed to revolutionize and revitalize the Hospital's service with vital new medical technology.
The centerpiece of Smart Headwaters is the acquisition of a state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine. The new MRI technology will allow for more accurate and timely diagnoses, improved treatment planning and enhanced patient outcomes, saving more than 4,000 patients per year from having to travel out of the area for care. The $18-million fundraising campaign was launched last June. “Since that time the campaign cabinet team and many community businesses and families have been stepping up to make sure we meet our goals. But more must be done to get the campaign to the finish line,” says Thompson. “Headwaters is serving one of the fastest-growing areas in the province and as our population continues to grow here in Caledon, we need to know our hospital is equipped to meet the ever-growing demands,” she says.
The campaign has been underway for almost a year and is just over three-quarters of the way towards its goal. But Thompson says she knows not everyone in her community is aware of the efforts and she wants to do her part to make sure the Caledon community is engaged. “The hard part is still ahead of us, and we must all do everything we can to help reach the fundraising goal by the final quarter of 2024,” says Thompson, because by that time, much of the transformational work will already be well under way.
To augment the campaign efforts, the Morningview Foundation generously pledged up to $1 million in donations and multi-year pledges toward the campaign for each 2023, 2024 and 2005 and Thompson says every effort must be made to maximize this offer and translate it into additional funding for the hospital. To kickstart her 2024 Caledon campaign efforts Thompson nominated Smart Headwaters for the February meeting of the 100 Women Who Care Caledon chapter and she is thrilled they were successful in that bid. In addition, the 2024 disbursement from the Allan and Anne Thompson Community Fund through the Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation is pledged to this campaign. “Just imagine the impact if every Caledon resident gave what they could. I’m asking our Caledon community to join with me in Caledon Cares, the collective community effort to help get the Smart Headwaters campaign to the finish line,” she says.
