ORANGEVILLE, ON – October 15, 2024
Headwaters Health Care Foundation (HHCF) is pleased to announce the inaugural Headwaters Hike to Fight Breast Cancer on Thursday October 10th raised an astounding $68,000 for breast cancer care equipment. The event saw over 175 participants who had the opportunity to choose a 1KM, 3KM or 5KM hike route at Monora Park. Following the hike, participants enjoyed a complimentary BBQ dinner and participated in a variety of fun games. Prizes were awarded to Julie Daley as the Top Fundraising Individual, raising an incredible $2,845.00, and the members of Stride for Strength as the Top Fundraising Team, raising an amazing $4,615.00.
The event also received a very generous $30,000 gift on behalf of the Estate of Karl Edelbrock in honour of the care provided by our hospital. Karl Edelbrock’s daughters Teresa Pope and Erica Edelbrock were pleased to know their father’s gift would have a meaningful impact on breast cancer care at our hospital, as sadly their mother passed away from breast cancer years prior. Teresa attended the event last week along with Erica’s husband Doug and her son Liam.
Speaking on the event’s success, HHCF CEO K.C. Carruthers said, “Thank you to the sponsors, participants and donors who turned steps into hope and dollars into real change. Together, we’re not just hiking but we are building on the promise of exceptional care close to home for those touched by breast cancer in our community. The Headwaters Hike to Fight Breast Cancer is a testament to the power of our community when we come together to support such an impactful cause. I am eager to see what this event will bring in the future and I look forward to watching it grow year after year.”
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those who participated, donated and sponsored this year’s event. Our event sponsors include Alpine Sponsor RBC Wealth Management Dominion Securities, Backcountry Sponsors: Amica Senior Lifestyles, AllPro Roofing, Bryans Fuel, Caledon Ski Club, Connor Clark & Lunn Private Capital – Michael Flux, Grand Valley Lions, Lavender Blue Catering, Saputo and Scotiabank, and Wilderness Sponsors: Ideal Supply and FM101 Orangeville. This events success was dependent on your support, and the community involvement by our participants.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women worldwide, with someone receiving a diagnosis every two minutes. The government does not provide funding to purchase medical equipment in our hospital, so nearly every piece of equipment used to provide cancer care is purchased thanks to donations made by individuals and organizations in our community. Events like the inaugural Headwaters Hike to Fight Breast Cancer are critical to ensuring Headwaters Health Care Centre can continue to provide cancer care treatment for our community, close to home.
We are already looking forward to next year’s event, if you are a business who is interested in getting involved please contact Christine Patterson at cpatterson@headwatershealth.ca or by phone at 519-941-2702, ext. 2309 to discuss sponsorship opportunities for the 2025 event.
