June 19, 2025 Orangeville, ON – Headwaters Health Care Foundation proudly marked a major milestone last night with the official celebration of the completion of its Smart Headwaters campaign, a transformative $18 million fundraising campaign that is revolutionizing health care delivery in the community.
The event, held outside Headwaters Health Care Centre’s cafeteria, brought together donors, volunteers, hospital staff, and community members to reflect on the tremendous success of the campaign and the lasting impact it will have on local health care at Headwaters Health Care Centre.
Attendees heard heartfelt remarks from Bill Duron, Foundation Board Chair; Joan Waechter, Chair of the Campaign Cabinet; Kim Delahunt, President & CEO of Headwaters Health Care Centre; and The Honourable Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. Each speaker acknowledged the generosity, vision, and commitment that helped bring this ambitious project to life.
Smart Headwaters has enabled the hospital to acquire cutting edge technology and modern equipment that will dramatically enhance patient care. Highlights of Smart Headwaters include:
- · MRI Machine – Coming Fall 2025: The region’s first MRI machine will provide faster diagnoses closer to home for patients and families. Set to be operational at Headwaters Health Care Centre by fall 2025.
- · Advanced CT Scanner: The state-of-the-art GE HealthCare Revolution Ascend CT system enhances the patient experience with artificial intelligence that supports comfort settings, image analysis, and faster scan times. It also offers improved patient safety with low-dose capabilities while maintaining high-quality imaging.
- · Newly Renovated X-ray Room: The updated X-ray room features the DRX-Evolution Plus system by Carestream. Patients benefit from enhanced image quality and AI-supported diagnostics for greater speed and accuracy. Pediatric imaging is improved with a smaller detector size and child-friendly adjustable components.
- · 3D Tomosynthesis Mammography: This advanced imaging technique creates a three-dimensional image of the breast using multiple low-dose X-rays. It improves tumor detection, particularly in women with dense breast tissue, and may reduce unnecessary callbacks for further testing.
- · Upgraded Hemodialysis Unit: The newly renovated unit features nine treatment stations, with potential to expand by two. Upgrades include a reverse osmosis water purification system, ergonomic treatment chairs with customizable features, in-floor scale for accessibility, private partition screens, and iPads for patient entertainment, in a bright, naturally lit environment.
“This $18 million campaign was ambitious, bold, and necessary’” said Joan Waechter. “It ensures that our incredible health care team has the tools they need to make the greatest possible impact for patients and families across Dufferin-Caledon.”
The campaign’s success is a testament to the community’s shared commitment to supporting exceptional health care, close to home. Thanks to the generosity of donors and the tireless efforts of volunteers, Smart Headwaters has helped the hospital to meet both current and future needs with compassion, precision, and innovation.
