2019 marks a $680,000 Commitment from the Headwaters Auxiliary – to make Headwaters Even Better!

September 12 2019
As part of their ongoing commitment to making Headwaters Health Care Centre an even better facility in which to receive high-quality medical care, Headwaters Health Care Auxiliary (HHCA), has committed to funding over $680,000 to support the Hospital and Headwaters Health Care Foundation.

HHCA are long time supporters and have contributed annually since 1986. This gift brings their cumulative giving to over $4.7 Million!!!

Susan Fletcher, President of the Auxiliary explained, “The community has been so supportive of our fundraising efforts. Through donations to, and purchases from Seconds Count, to patronizing the Coffee and Gift Shop at the Hospital, to attendance at our biennial House Tour…the community has allowed us to support the Hospital at this level.”

This generous donation will be used to fund several significant areas including the Hospital’s current Lobby and Main Entrance Renovation, new and replacement equipment needs, and a future renovation to the Hospital’s Emergency Department.

Increasing Safety and Accessibility - Main Entrance Renovation:  Headwaters patients and their families will experience a new one-stop shop with respect to arrival, registration and bill payment, supported through self-service registration kiosks and centralized registration. The Lobby will include a new, more accessible entryway, a new information desk, expanded waiting areas, a therapeutic and fully accessible outdoor space, re-designed gift shop and cafe and a new, safer and more accommodating central staircase. The space will also be home to wheelchairs for patient transport and the parking machine.

New and Replacement Equipment: Each year the Hospital prioritizes approximately $2M in specialized medical equipment, facility upgrades and infrastructure needs. These urgent priorities are independent from other special projects and are integral to keeping the Hospital’s programs and clinics running and providing great care close to home. Specifically, this commitment will support new urology equipment for the reintroduced Urology Program at Headwaters, a new anaesthesia machine for the surgical unit, a cast saw for Orthopaedics and a new ice machine for the Emergency Department.

Emergency Department Renovation: Originally built for 22,000 patients annually, the Headwaters Emergency Department sees over 42,000 each year. To improve our patient’s experience, improve overall flow, increase capacity and improve wait times, a redesign is currently in the approval phase with the Ministry of Health. The Auxiliary has committed to supporting two dedicated areas within Emergency, one for our patients experiencing addiction, dementia or other mental health challenges, and one specifically for our cardiac patients.

“The contributions to the Hospital through the Auxiliary are critical to our ability to provide care to our patients,” said Stacey Daub, President & CEO. “We are fortunate that people in our communities have been so generous for so many years. It certainly reflects our purpose statement as a hospital of One Community, Caring Together.”

Foundation Executive Director, Dora Boylen-Pabst added, “This is a critical time in the Hospital’s and the Foundation’s evolution, the size and scope of our community as well as their needs have changed and grown. None of these projects receive government funding, and as an organization the hospital is dependent on the support of our community. The Auxiliary has ALWAYS stepped up to help this Hospital, whether through financial contributions or the over 21,000 volunteer hours they provide within the facility every year, directly serving patients. Quite simply, the Hospital and the Foundation are incredibly indebted to the Auxiliary for all of their efforts.”
